How to install our products handmade terracotta

Semi-dry or "granulated" installation.

INEXPENSIVE: This type of installation allows us to save on screed and not to buy adhesive, which is increasingly more expensive. Our installers apply the terracotta directly on the substratum with the electrical-hydraulic systems in view and create the finished floor in a single solution.

FUNCTIONAL: Installing the pieces on a bed of sand allows us to position them, better "matching" their natural and typical deformities, which characterise handmade terracotta flooring.

IDEAL FOR HEATED FLOORS: The advantage here lies in avoiding a layer of glue (about 15 mm) which interposes between the heating coil and the piece. In the granulated system, after having well admixed the mixture formed by the cement and the inert materials, we can carefully fill the surface heated by the pipe and, after having reinforced with mesh, a second coat is laid out, ready to receive the piece. This ensures not only a perfect anchor but also maximum conductivity and permeability of the entire heating appliance.

Installation with adhesive

SAFE FOR OUTDOORS: Gluing the piece on waterproof screed, adhesive installation allows us to guarantee frost resistance of our handmade terracotta. A gradient of no less than 1.5 cm per linear metre is, however, required.

CONVENIENT If we have to glue on existing flooring, if we need to suddenly leave the site or if a very complex installation is required.

Grouting.

Grouting is perhaps the most difficult and delicate part of installation. Read-to-use stucco or traditional materials such as sand, cement and lime can be used. The traditional system, besides being less expensive, installs better with the technical characteristics of our pieces. In both cases, when using ready-to-use stucco and when using traditional materials, the surfaced to be interspaced must be very wet, in such a way that when the liquid stucco ("grout") drains, it will not be absorbed by the piece, which is saturated in water. This facilitates the perfect cleaning which will have to be carried out according to proper times and methods. We do not recommend that you apply a water repellent to the surface before grouting.
